Fallbrook is located just inside San Diego’s North County line, off
Interstate 15. It has been coined “The Avocado Capital Of The World,”
producing millions of dollars worth each year. Fallbrook Main Street
embraces a 19th century feel with historical buildings and
antique shops. Local farmers who grow avocados, lemons, olives, and
flowers, have most likely been in the area for decades, living the
country life. The climate draws this farming production, which remains
the main business in the region. There are 50 wholesale and retail
nurseries in the community.
Fallbrook real estate is known for homes on large acreage, and four golf
courses set a plan for home building. Neighborhoods have been
incorporated by country clubs with areas such as Bonsall and San Luis
Rey Heights. Older Fallbrook homes remain close to downtown but housing
was built up for the working upper class as time passed. Newer homes
have large lots and are built up to enjoy views. Large custom homes mix
with older traditional styles, making an interesting mix of Fallbrook
real estate.
Area residents are within an easy commute of Orange County,
Riverside County and Camp Pendleton. San Diego is about 60 miles south,
and not a great option for commuting professionals. Oceanside is much
closer for those working outside the Fallbrook community.
Over $50
million in bonds has been awarded to upgrade local Fallbrook schools and
build a performing arts center. Because of income diversity, school
scores reflect this range. The high school Madrigals are an
award-winning singing group at the high school who have sung at Radio
City Music Hall in New York. Other school activities are plentiful.
Other recreations include a horse track, horse trails, two park
preserves, golf courses, the local Arts and Cultural Center, and seven
shopping centers. The Annual Avocado Festival is held every spring and
pays appropriate homage to this well-loved green fruit!
